Accredited Internship Program
On-Campus Internships: NYPIRG chapters participate in internship programs with academic departments, opportunity programs, and public service programs, among others. Hundreds of students participate each year and receive academic or service credit for their work with NYPIRG. Student interns participate in weekly workshops that prepare them for leadership roles in ongoing campaigns. Interns prepare and lead project meetings, build coalitions, give presentations, plan successful events, organize news conferences, and more.
Legislative Internship: All activity-fee paying students are eligible to apply for the NYPIRG Legislative Internship. In an intensive, semester-long program based out of NYPIRGs legislative office in Albany, interns work under the supervision of the legislative director, focusing on one issue area, such as higher education funding or the environment. Students accepted into the program gain experience lobbying and in media relations. Students are eligible to earn up to a full semesters academic credit, and receive a modest living stipend.
