NYPIRG's Second Coal Kills Rally was a Tremendous Success!!! Don't miss the next one!!
On a damp and misty morning in April, dozens of members of NYPIRG and RAN were out in force to protest Citibank's investment in coal-fired power plants. Citibank is one of the largest financiers of coal-fired power plants in the United States. Despite the fact that Citibank, along with several other leading US financial institutions, signed on to the Carbon Priciples, they still continue to fund the construction of new coal plants.
What's even worse is that since the US government has lent banks billions of taxpayer dollars via the bailouts, they are using our money to finance the very plants that are speeding global warming and killing us. Now, more than ever, we have a right and a responsibility to demand that they stop. Check out the pictures and video below.
We will be having another Coal Kills Rally - this time against JP Morgan Chase, who like Citi, invests heavily in coal plants despite their public statements about "going green." We have to send a strong message to JP Morgan that the public will not tolerate will not tolerate their hypocrisy.
Please join members of NYPIRG, Rainforest Action Network, and the Sierra Club to tell JP Morgan to Invest in Our Future - Invest in Renewable Energy!!! We can't sit by while the bank uses our money to fund global warming. They are mortgaging our future and it must end with us.
Coal Kills Rally:
When: Tuesday, May 19th, 9am - 12pm
Where: 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza (corner of Nassau and Liberty
Streets), New York, NY

On March 5th, nearly 100 activists from NYPIRG and the Sierra Club held its first Coal Kills Rally to protest coal industry executives. The hotel was the site of the NY Coal Trade Association’s annual black-tie banquet. We greeted the “who’s who of the coal industry” by waving signs and wielding jars of real coal sludge from Tennessee Valley and a volunteer dressed as a polar bear to remind us of the consequences of climate change.
Take a minute to watch the video and check out the pictures of the event. It was an awesome night!
We’ll definitely be having more of these rallies in the future – so please, check back often for updates. One may be in the works as we speak…
