NYPIRG’s 350 Campaign
NYPIRG has partnered with 350.org, an international coalition of hundreds of organizations and thousands of individuals, to fight climate change. Our goal is to fight for climate solutions that will ensure a 21st century green economy. NYPIRG’s 350 Campaign will unite individuals and organizations across the state behind a common goal of reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases below 350 parts per million - what scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere - and ushering in a new, clean energy economy.
To accomplish this goal, we must:
- Reduce global warming pollution by at least 25% of 1990 levels by 2020 and at least 80% of 1990 levels by 2050.
- Create green jobs and pathways out of poverty by rebuilding and refueling America with immediate investments in clean energy infrastructure.
- Repower America by imposing a moratorium on the construction of new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. Replace dirty fuel with 100% renewable energy.
How will NYPIRG’s 350 Campaign accomplish all this?
The strategy is driven by field organizing and citizen engagement. With your help, NYPIRG will continue to build a bold and diverse movement that will demonstrate potent and visible public support for federal and state policymakers to implement the 350.org Solutions as quickly as possible.
