When the Metropolitan Transit Authority raised fares on subways, buses and commuter rail lines, NYPIRG's Straphangers Campaign leapt into action. Discovering that the budget numbers the MTA used to explain the need for a hike didn't add up, Straphangers sued in New York State court — and won! Justice Louis York ordered the MTA to roll back the hike. But the story isn't over yet — the MTA has appealed the ruling. For the latest updates on the suit, click here.
