We’ve prepared this site to help the public and advocates better understand how the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) will impact on the way we vote and hold elections for years to come. HAVA requires substantial changes to the way we will cast our ballots. New voting machines, ensuring equal access for voters with disabilities and discriminatory provisions requiring identification from certain voters are just some of the provisions that are either already being implemented or must all be in place by the 2006 elections.

Much of the content for this site was drafted with New York in mind and the Coalition has played an active role in the implementation process in the state and will continue to do so. But we believe that the majority of our materials have impact far beyond New York’s borders. We hope our thoughts on how to ensure that HAVA enfranchises as many as possible - and disenfranchises as few as possible - will be of use.
