Homeless Outreach & Hunger Prevention Project

NYPIRG's Homeless Outreach & Hunger Prevention Project is a dedicated to bettering the lives of New York's homeless and hungry population by shedding light on the realities of poverty while providing direct relief to those who need it most. Students working with NYPIRG help to make life just a bit more comfortable for New York's less fortunate by organizing community education events, running volunteer and service projects and collecting needed items through campus–wide drives.

Poverty Awareness and Public Education

Staff and students working with NYPIRG educate the public about the devastating issue of poverty by organizing educational forums, hosting workshops and running simulation events that bring light to the struggle that people who experience hunger or homelessness endure. Events address issues the local community face while providing an avenue to get involved.

Goods Drives and Service Projects

Students working with NYPIRG run goods drives to collect everything from toothpaste and toilet paper to socks and coats in order to provide direct assistance to those in need. NYPIRG chapters also volunteer at local soup kitchens, community centers and food pantries to provide social services that help improve the day-to-day experiences of those facing poverty.
