Temple Beth Elohim

Temple Beth Elohim, located on Doansburg Road in the Town of Southeast, involves the construction of a 20,400 square-foot building with extended driveway and parking lots in a very sensitive area of the New York City Watershed. The proposed project of approximately 47 acres, all in the Town of Southeast, Putnam County, may have a negative effect on a part of the Croton Reservoir system, the East Branch Reservoir, which is already suffering from phosphorous overload. Certainly any increase in impervious surfaces is dangerous to water quality. Recently, NYPIRG submitted comments to the Town Planning Board expressing concerns for water protection measures. We will continue to monitor the status of the project.
