Welcome to the Borough of Manhattan Community College Chapter of the New York Public Interest Research Group! NYPIRG is a statewide, student directed organization focusing on fighting for students' rights, developing student leaders, and advocating on issues ranging from protecting higher education funding and working for a clean environment to preventing hunger and homelessness. We teach students a range of important and practical skills while working with campus and community groups on local and statewide campaigns.

NYPIRG offers students the opportunity and the tools to be civically engaged and politically active. As a NYPIRG volunteer, the work you do to organize coalitions and events, gain media attention, talk to legislators, and speak in public will allow you to become a better advocate.

NYPIRG activists last year joined a statewide effort to successfully defeat CUNY tuition hikes and cuts to higher education funding. BMCC NYPIRG students held clothing and food drives throughout the year to help the hungry and the homeless. BMCC NYPIRG students have registered over 1,100 BMCC students to vote, participated in a citywide voter registration blitz and monitored polls all over New York City to protect voters’ rights. This year we will be setting up a Small Claims Court Action Center to assist students and the community, lobbying legislators to protect our air and water resources, and advocating for safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation. Our office is just steps away from City Hall, in the heart of Lower Manhattan, so stop by our office at 9 Murray Street on the 3rd Floor to get involved!
