ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY DIRECTOR
NEW YORK PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP FUND
The New York Public Interest Research Group Fund (NYPIRG) seeks qualified candidates for its Environmental Policy Director position. The Director will play a lead role in running advocacy campaigns, community education efforts, and policy research to advance NYPIRG’s environmental agenda. The Environmental Policy Director will also work with community members and college students to generate grassroots power to address frontline community needs and generational climate justice, providing a rewarding, meaningful, and exciting experience for civic-minded activists.
Description: The Environmental Policy Director will work with NYPIRG Fund’s staff of researchers, organizers, and attorneys to advocate for policies addressing the growing dangers that climate change poses to our health and environment.
The Director will lead NYPIRG’s efforts to combat climate change by addressing its root cause – the polluting fossil fuel industry. Campaigns will oppose the expansion of proposed fossil fuel infrastructure projects, demand that the industry is held accountable for misleading the public over the dangers resulting from burning fossil fuels, and advance renewable energy solutions.
Additionally, as climate change and the industrial legacy of pollution jeopardize the availability of clean water, the Director will advocate for policies that protect the state’s drinking water supplies and waterways. And as over 99% of plastics are sourced from fossil fuels, the Director will advocate for policies that end the use and production of single-use plastics and improve recycling.
By joining NYPIRG, the Director will join an organization which has led critical fights to ban fracking, shut down polluting incinerators, improve recycling, and support renewable energy, sustainability, and energy efficiency programs.
